How can this happen? http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/01/27/new-jersey-man-found-dead-in-his-home-after-a-year/

When I picked up the local paper this morning and saw the head line I was disgusted, yet again, to be human. Dead for over a year in his home! His neighbors, community and family didn’t even care enough to actually check on him? And a veteran! In a relatively small community?! And, with a sister?! Nobody checked on him in over a year? All I can say is shame on the rest of us.

The community is calling him a “recluse”… really? Sorry a recluse can not be defined as a “fixture for many years”. No, he was alone and old. A recluse doesn’t go out every day for breakfast for years. In my opinion, they are trying to justify this obvious act of indifference towards another human being. Of course, now we are going to give him a “proper” burial… gosh, that is so nice of us.

All I can say is many of us folks will be old and many of us will be alone… think about THAT next time we are too busy or too self absorbed to check on our elderly neighbor, I mean REALLY check on our elderly neighbor and NOT give up after no answer at door.

This makes me so sad for our species and adds to the direction I believe we are going… down that slippery slope of selfishness.

About Brain Droppings...

I'm a tree hugger. I would like to leave the earth a better place than I found it, even though that is difficult to do these days. My thoughts I'll share on this blog are random and I hope indicate a raised awareness as time progresses.
